Dr. Ozan Balık

Dr. Ozan Balık was born in 1975 in Adana, Turkey. He completed his primary and secondary education in Adana and graduated from Adana Karşıyaka High School in 1992. In the same year, he enrolled in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Istanbul University. After undergoing a series of orthopedic surgeries, he decided to leave engineering and pursue medicine. In 1993, he began his medical education at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine and earned his medical degree in 1999.

He fulfilled his compulsory service at Viranşehir State Hospital’s Emergency Department between 1999 and 2000. From 2001 to 2002, he worked as a resident doctor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation at Göztepe SSK Hospital. In 2002, he joined the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine. He completed his specialization in 2008 and received his certification. In the same year, he was awarded the “National Board Certification” by the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Between 2008 and 2009, he served as the Chief of the Plastic Surgery Clinic at Edirne State Hospital. Since 2010, Dr. Ozan Balık has been continuing his professional practice at his private clinic in Istanbul.

He demonstrated that Reverse End-to-Side Nerve Repair can be used in peripheral nerve injuries. His thesis on this topic was published in Annals of Plastic Surgery under the title “A Successful Neurotization of Two Different Muscles Using a Single Intact Motor Nerve.” Additionally, he developed a technique for creating a sensate clitoris–labia complex for gender reassignment surgeries, which he named the “Butterfly Flap” and also published in Annals of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Ozan Balık is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the International Society of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), The Rhinoplasty Society of Europe, and the Turkish Society of Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (TPRECD).

Outside of his medical career, Dr. Ozan Balık enjoys writing novels and screenplays, and designing biomechanical devices as hobbies.
